• Baby’s Due Date: February 2012
  • Location: San Diego, CA
  • Description: Modern, Clean and Simple
  • Design Inspiration: Grey and yellow! Because we aren’t finding out the sex of the bay, we decided on either Green, Yellow, Brown or Gray color schemes. We went with Gray and Yellow.
  • Decorating Style: Modern, comfortable, simple, affordable. Most everything in the room were purchased at a discount or cheap price. The king size circle bed and tv give us with the option to stay with the baby if need be. We started out the room with a crib handed down from my brother. From there we started by painting the walls gray.
  • Project Details: Less is more. Design and print stuff yourself (if possible). To create the head silhouettes, I took a photo our heads and finalized it in photoshop, then printed it on standard paper. The ABC photo frame was inspired from another ABC photo seen online. I designed one similar and added my own accent animals and graphic elements and printed it on inkjet photo paper. We picked up the ottoman storage, cube shelves and chalkboard all from Target, all on sale.
  • Favorite Items: The silhouettes, the circle king bed and lamps
  • Advice: If possible, take your time and start early. Come up with your color scheme first and work on building around an item. We started with a  hand me down crib and built around it.

What’s next: With our baby shower coming us this week, we will be placing pom poms above the crib. They currently aren’t up because they will be used for the decorating the shower. A photo will be posted once we finish the room. Feel free to send us your comments. Thanks for stopping by and I hope we provided you with some informative info. Good luck!!!!

With a little over a month away before my child enters the world, I picked up some photo props and practiced some test shots. I’m always on the look out for misc items I can use for photo props and came across this chair and wood floor at Ikea. I had a couple coupons for Ikea so I picked up this kids chair and doll bed. The gem of Ikea is the “As Is” area of the store. At most Ikeas just before the check-out counters, they have an “As Is” section where items that are either damaged or returned get placed. I came across an opened box of wood floor planks for only 10 bucks. I scored a bean bag at Marshalls for 10 bucks and also got a couple baskets for a few bucks each. The backdrop was the only thing I spent a little more money on because I wanted to get a solid stand that would last me throughout the years. I got the backdrop paper at my local camera store and ordered the light stand and umbrella online. My ideal situation is to shoot during the day with natural light, but I wanted to test out a new speedlight so I ended up shooting this at night with minimal ambient light. I’m always inspired by other photographers and love looking at other people’s behind the scenes footage. It’s always good to get ideas from others, that’s why I wanted to try this pull back shot in case it could also help someone else get inspired. If you like the shot or have any questions or comments, feel free to comment on this post or send me an email. Thank you.
