As a documenter, I’ve been asked what equipment I use. I’m pretty big on less is more. I try to keep my set-up simple, easy to prep and mobile by bringing out a couple lenses, speed lights and a diffuser/reflector.

Here’s a list of a few of my goodies that are in my bag:

Nikon DSLR – I just love the feel of Nikon

Vertical grip – adds weight but comes in handy for portraits

17-50mm 2.8 – my work-horse

50mm 1.8 – best for low light and little ones

85mm 1.8 – awesome for portraits and detail shots

Speedlights – mobile and multi-use

Diffusers – lovin my collapsable Gary Fong

Reflectors – sometimes with me

Strobes – set up at the home studio for newborn and kid photos

Umbrellas – use them at the home studio and sometimes onsite

Pocket wizard flex & Cowboy Studio triggers – keeping it off camera

Azden boom mic for video – get good audio when shooting
